Robert Pattinson says his fans are "gross."

The 23-year-old actor - who plays sexy vampire Edward Cullen in cult movie ‘Twilight' - was appalled when several female fans approached him with bleeding cuts on their necks.

He explained: "One time there were these four girls - in Chicago I think - and they had all scratched their necks until they bled, and then when they came up to me they had these bleeding scabs. It was gross."

A fan by the name of Stephanie posted this photograph on her Twitter account. It is of her wrist, tattooed with the signature of Robert Pattinson. While it is not unheard of, or completely extraordinary to have signatures or insignia tattooed on one's body (I've seen the likes of Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon autographed into the skin of die-hard fans, and even the Earth symbol from Dan Brown's book Angels & Demons etched into someone's arm), but is this taking fandom of Pattinson too far, or is the decision completely ordinary?

Men Robert Pattinson har setts lämna en studio i Venice med ett tjockt häfte i handen, troligtvis manuset till hans nya film Remember me. Emmy Rossum, känd från day after tomorrow, sågs lämna samma studio tidigare på dagen, så hon ska då troligtvis spela mot honom.

R.P. Oh, you have read that in the interview for the April American GQ, right? Dude, I was kidding. It sounded like a total loser and thought it would be funny to say that.

DR: It's wonderful to see a young actor like this, who despite the fame and the adulation is choosing a path and taking some extremely challenging and provocative roles. Do you think he will continue on that path?

PM: He is serious about acting and I am sure that, yeah, he will want to do roles that challenge him. I can't tell you how hard he worked on the role of Dali. I was encouraging him to just play the script, but he was for himself hunting down every day bits of film or tape or interviews or a biography of Dali. He worked really hard at it, both intellectually and emotionally. I think that's in his blood now, I think. I don't think he'll be satisfied with playing less than interesting roles.
